Sounds amazing! If we were on the ground floor and had some patio/back yard space, the first thing I'd do would be to put in some raised beds. Alas, fire escapes don't make for very, er, diverse gardening spots.
We planted our first garden. Peppers & tomatoes are running rampant in our backyard now. We planted them very early in peat pots to get them started. The plan was to plant a very wide variety of different veggies like corn, okra, peas, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cucumbers, green beans, onion sets, green onions, beets, kale, & different greens..however, we had all the little plants & a small space, so we ended up planting just green bell peppers, jalapenos, Anaheim peppers, & tomatoes. Today I will go out & add greens & onions to our mix.
