Today’s Friday Internet Crushes is a tribute to ReadyMade Magazine, which folded yesterday after 10 years of providing DIY inspiration and general awesomeness to the making and crafting community.
Even though I was only 18 when the magazine first came out, and certainly didn’t have a home (or power tools) of my own, I have subscribed since 2001. It was always so full of amazing projects, ideas, and inspiring stories, that it’s the only magazine that I didn’t throw away in all of my years of moving and apartment purges. I mean, you never know when you’re going to need to know how to make infused vodka or learn how to silkscreen!
More recently, as I transitioned into life as a craft writer, and ReadyMade’s website became one of my go-to places for crafty inspiration, I remember how ecstatically excited I was the first time that ReadyMade featured one of my projects—my T-Shirt to Underpants Upcycling Tutorial. (Of which, for the record, I am a bit embarrassed now that my sewing skills have improved.) I’m pretty sure I called/texted/emailed everyone I knew.
So, thanks to all of the people who made ReadyMade what it was. It don’t know that I would be a craft writer if you guys hadn’t done it first, and you will be sorely missed.

Oh no. This is so sad!
